Celebrate Life’s Milestones with a Special Quilt

Memory quilts vary in size from a pillow to a small wall hanging to a bed size quilt. An artistic wall hanging with memories from a special engagement makes a memorable wedding gift. Or a lap quilt from a loved one’s clothing keeps their memory close and can help with the healing process. A portrait of a beloved pet keeps their memory alive. A t-shirt quilt with all of a student’s t-shirts from high school makes a great send-off to college.

I work with Kristin Meranda to create your custom top. Kristin has created many touching quilts for customers. For each quilt she will meet with you and talk about the possible elements to include. She creates a unique design especially for you or you can choose from a selection of themes and styles. You bring her elements to put in the quilt – favorite colors, photographs, clothing, buttons, quotes and she will incorporate them into an unforgettable quilt. I will do the longarm quilting to complement the elements she has incorporated.

Elements to use in a memory quilt

  • Clothing—work shirts, t-shirts, dresses, children’s clothes (shirt weight all cotton fabric works best for a quilt which will be washed)
  • Special elements from clothing—name tags, monograms, patches, badges, pockets
  • Ties, aprons, buttons, handkerchiefs, ribbon
  • Custom jewelry, tie tacks, lapel pins
  • Wedding or honeymoon items
  • Unfinished quilt tops or blocks
  • Novelty fabrics with a related theme (golf, cars, gardening, etc. Can be purchased at your local quilt shop)
  • Photos—people, places, events, vacations
  • Letters (can be scanned and transferred to fabric)
  • Favorite color
  • Quotes, sayings, scripture, prayers, song lyrics, family memories, book titles
  • Themes—nature, sports, a place
  • School related items—logo, mascot, school name, awards, graduation tassel, diploma, name of college dorm, year abroad mementos
  • Children’s art work (can be scanned and transferred to fabric)
  • Signatures from a group of friends (book club, bible study, work colleagues—I can tell you how to prepare fabric for signatures and what pen to use)

Note: When you submit items for your memory quilt, please provide a VERY detailed list of the items so that we can be sure that we either use or return them all to you. It is best to store everything in a single container with your name and a list of items taped to the top of the container. I understand how important these items are to you and we will treat them with the utmost respect.
